Immediate Opening for Organist/Choirmaster

Description

Worship, Liturgy, and Music
 Serve as principal organist and keyboardist for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Eucharist
and other designated services and special liturgies.
 Plan and coordinate the music components of the church’s regular, seasonal,
and special liturgies in collaboration with the clergy. This includes, but is not
limited to: hymns, sung chants, service music, organ repertoire, and other music
consistent with the Episcopal tradition.
 The Parish Choir is present for all Christmas and HolyWeek/Easter services:
1. Currently two on Christmas Eve with Musical Preludes (330 and 1030 pm,
Ash Wednesday, Maunday Thursday, Good Friday (7 pm only), Easter
Vigil (Sat at 7 p.m.) and Easter Sunday. During Lent some Wed.
programming may include music.
2. The Parish Choir also presents three sung Evensong services with short
concerts by soloists and ensembles outside the parish family.
3. The Organist/Choirmaster is responsible for the engagement of outside
professional musicians and ensembles when needed. He/she also
engages Choral Scholars from local colleges and universities.
4. We hope our new Organist/Choirmaster will help recruit new singers.

Parish Choir Leadership
 Recruit, develop, and direct the Parish Choir
 Conduct weekly choir rehearsals and Sunday morning warm up/run through.
 Select the repertoire in support of the seasonal festivals and the RCL.
Provide musical and liturgical guidance and formation to choir members, choral
scholars, parishioners, and others.

Choral Evensong and Concert Series

 Schedule and plan the Ascension Evensong Concert Series (3 Sunday evenings)
 Plan the musical and liturgical components of these services
 Select repertoire and coordinate participating choirs, artists, and clergy
 Facilitate and schedule in cooperation with clergy and staff, administer contracts
and payroll. Publicize in the broader community.

Musical Instruments and Resources
 Oversee the maintenance care of the organ, pianos, harpsichord, handbells, and
any other musical equipment involved in the overall music program.
 Coordinate and schedule tunings, seasonal and routine maintenance/repair.
 Organize and maintain the Choral and Music Library and other written, and
online resources as needed.

Church Bullletin
 Prepare Psalms (pointing) and prepare other materials required for sung liturgy.
 Prepare and format musical content for bulletins.

Fiscal and Administrative
 Administer the Music Budget and monitor expenses and expenditures throughout
the year.
 Participate with church clergy, staff, Finance Comm. and the Vestry in yearly and
seasonal budget planning.
