About the Event

Our culture tends to ignore death. At the very least, we make wild attempts to distract ourselves from it for as long as possible. Every couple of years at Ascension we attempt to address the essential theological, ethical, and emotional issues surrounding death and dying.

Undoubtedly, death is at times a difficult topic. As is the challenge of aging and how we care for others and ourselves in the final years of life.  In a culture of jittery discontent that is constantly striving for happiness, we find ourselves with few tools to help us abide in sadness, even for a time.

This fall, Mark Valcourt, Michael Deckard, Stephen Williamson, and Karla Woggon will lead a holy conversation on the various practical, theological, philosophical, and ethical aspects of death, dying, and aging.

September   17 -- Aloneness  - How do you want to die? (Mark Valcourt)

September   24 -- Being Present - Friendship and the Elderly (Michael   Deckard)

October   1 -- No Forum--Joint worship with St. Alban's and Epiphany.

October   8 -- Communal Memory - Wisdom  (Karla Woggon)

October   15 -- Health Care  (Stephen Williamson)

October   22 -- Kingdom Family - Many Fathers  (Mark Valcourt)

October   29 -- Learning to Die - What does a good death look like? (Michael Deckard)

November   5 -- The Church and Death - What does the church say about death?  (Karla Woggon)
