About the Event
Ascension's Senior Warden Stephen Williamson will guide us through the weekly Old Testament readings and pull out different Jewish traditions and interpretations. By enriching and explaining scriptures, oral traditions told by word of mouth from generation to generation form the core of a religion. Fearing the loss of such traditions Jewish scholars began writing the stories and conversations told about them by their ancestors. These stories were compiled in the early centuries of the common era into various sets known collectively as the Talmud. By exploring some of these traditions perhaps we can gain insight not only into our readings from the Hebrew Bible but also the stories which Jesus and his earliest followers may have associated with them.
